Compound Exercises

One of the most common mistakes when training ab muscles is only thinking about specific isolation exercises. As a result, many people don’t train their abs functionally. One great way to train your abs in a functional manner would be to use compound exercises. The main purpose of your abdominal muscles is stabilization. When doing compound movements like squats and deadlifts, your abs have to work harder in order to stabilize your trunk.

On the flip side, training your abdominal and core muscles will also help to compliment your compound movements as your abs will be able to stabilize and handle more weight during those movements.

Specification

If you are an individual trying to get a 6 pack, training ab muscles alone will not get you to your goals. Your body fat percentage will play a huge role (learn how to manage your body weight). Additionally, as mentioned before, compound movements will be great because they are working multiple muscle groups at the same time and can help you burn more fat compared to just focusing on ab exercises.
