Looking for a new Ab Challenge? Try out Stack Attack! This exercise is performed in a plank position from your hands. You start with the three objects stacked over each other, in a controlled manner move each object over to the other side and repeat (as seen in the video below).
Benefits of Stack Attack/ Plank
1. Strengthens your Abdominals Safely
This exercise will train you inner ab muscles, including the transversus abdominis, which lays the foundation for creating a stronger, more defined rectus abdominis (the front of your abs which people see in the mirror). For individuals that have back problems this is a safer alternative than crunches because there is no spine flexion.
2. Improve Posture
Plank helps to build a functional core, this includes the whole trunk from your shoulder girdle to the pelvic girdle. When muscles including your abdominals, back muscles such as erector spinae, and rhomboids are strong it will help you to stand straighter.
Maintaining a good posture correlates to proper alignment.
3. Movement & Coordination
Plank trains stabilization of your abs, which is exactly what they are designed to do.
When you are performing any activity such as playing a sport, lifting weights, walking and running having well trained core will greatly help. The plank helps to strengthen all of your core, making your body work together as a unit.
