Pro body builder takes on an NFL player in the coveted 40 yard dash. This is a great example which shows the importance of functional and sports specific training.
If you were to compare the training methods of bodybuilders and football players you will find they are very different. Body builders train their muscles in isolation working towards muscle hypertrophy compared to football players who train for speed power and athleticism. It was not a huge surprise when the NFL player won the race. The bodybuilder pulled his hamstring midway through the 40 yard dash, bodybuilders do a great job working their muscles in isolation. This can pose problems when they try to coordinate all their muscles together like in a sprint. The muscles are not used to firing in that manner which posed problems for this bodybuilder during his sprint.
