Edith Murway-Traina recently turned 100 years old. Which is a feat in itself for many individuals. She is also in the Guinness Book of World Records as she become the oldest recorded competitive female powerlifter!
Edith Murray-Traina Proves It’s Never Too Late To Start
Edith Murway-Traina didn’t start powerlifting until she was 91 years young. She was invited to a local recreational center by a friend which initially spurred her interest. She saw other people lifting in the gym and wanted to try it out. Murray-Traina started lifting barbells and grabbed onto the sport of powerlifting.

It is said that Murway-Traina has always had a knack for taking on new challenges.
Furthermore, Murway-Traina competed in her first sanctioned powerlifting competition at the 2013 Raw United Powerlifting Federation – Raw Record Breaker comp where she came first in her class.
- Bench Press — 45 pounds
- Deadlift — 110 pounds
- Total — 70.3 kilograms 155 pounds
Murway-Traina has gone on to compete in 14 competitions where she has 9 gold medals, and two silver!
