Drop sets on bench press can be an effective tool for people looking to build muscle in their upper body. Drop sets allows you to get more volume into the set by dropping the weight when you can’t do anymore reps. Additionally, a lot of bodybuilders will use drop when working out.
Personally I generally don’t recommend drop sets on compound lifts like bench, squats and deadlifts. But that is coming from a strength/powerlifting perspective.
What are drop sets?
Drop sets are a form of training where when the set is finished you drop the weight and more reps. People sometimes use drop sets as a finisher or to burn out after a set.
Who should use drop sets?
I would recommend drop sets for people looking to build muscle. They can also be an effective tool if you are short on time in the gym and want to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time.
On the other hand, I would not recommend drop sets for strength athletes and powerlifters especially when prepping for a competition.
