Do you sit down for long periods of a day either at:
- desk
- office
- couch
- driving
- school
Our sedentary lifestyles can lead to muscular imbalances in your shoulder joint that can cause pain. Often times when we are sitting down our shoulders default to a slumped position where they are caving in or forward. This can negatively affect your posture but can also cause your chest muscles and anterior delts to become overly tight while the external rotators of your shoulder like your rear delt muscles become weak.
On a general level their are things we can do to fix this. For more details watch the video above with features Dr. Brenda Ye discussing some of these fixes.
- Stretch the muscles at the front of your shoulder
- Mobilize your shoulder joint
- Strengthen your external rotators of the shoulder joint
It is always good to consult a professional like a physiotherapist.
